Aristotle is a Greek Philosopher and Scientist and one of the greatest intellectual figures of Western history. A prolific writer and polymath, he radically transformed most, if not all, areas of knowledge he touched.
Founder of the Lyceum scholastic academy, Aristotle has written extensively on all subjects: politics, metaphysics, ethics, logic, and science. As the father of the field of intellectual discipline and logic, he was the first to develop a formalized system for reasoning which laid the foundation for modern science.
Aristotle divided the sciences into three kinds:
- Productive - those that have a product such as Engineering, Architecture, Rhetoric (i.e. physical structures, victory on battlefield)
- Practical - those that guide behavior such as Ethics and Politics
- Theoretical - those that have no product such as Physics and Theology but are studied for their own sake
