Gregory J. Cahanin doesn’t just perform fire Origin and Cause investigations. While courts may accept investigators who do only origin and cause investigations, a jury will be more receptive to an expert that is currently working in the field of fire protection engineering to apply the principals which may have been missing in a fire scenerio.  His company also works with architects and building owners to insure that buildings meet nationally established building and fire codes and standards. Fire protection design support includes conceptual and as-built reviews of fire walls and smoke barriers, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and life safety egress systems. Constantly working in the built environment provides a depth of experience not often found in Origin and Cause investigators.
Greg Cahanin has been actively involved in National Building & Fire Codes for nearly two decades.  Greg currently serves on 3 National Fire Protection Committees  For the the International Building Code he is a contributing editor for the Code Commentary on the subject of fire protection features.  Because Greg Cahanin knows the how and why of fire code requirements he brings a depth of understanding from the code arena into every fire investigation.
Expert assistance with the application of codes and standards can be critical in litigation support.  This includes identifying which codes were applicable at the time of the incident, fire time-line reconstruction, and condition of the fire detection and suppression systems at the time of the loss.  Greg Cahanin will provide support at the loss site and perform critical scene investigation, photograph and memorialize the scene, reconstruct the scene, and provide evidence preservation.  Material analysis includes microscopic exams at his office, x-ray exams, and chemical analysis of samples and performing product testing for the purpose of validating or disproving previous conclusions concerning the cause of a product failure.  All testing is documented for presentation in court.

Cahanin Fire & Code Consulting is based in Florida,  but provides services throughout the US, Caribbean, and Central and South America.  Consulting work includes work in New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, North Carolina,  Oklahoma, Texas, Indiana, and Mississippi.  Client work outside of the Country include work for Lagoven ( Crude Oil Production) in Venezuela, the Rio de Janeiro International Airport, and multiple Central and South American site evaluations for the World Bank.  In the U.S. Gregory J. Cahanin has provided fire protection engineering support to the GSA for buildings in New York City, New Jersey, Atlanta, and Tampa.
